The Ferry is the pastoral that is brought during the celebrations by the pope instead of the normal one. It is similar to the stick pastoral ministry of bishop but, unlike the latter, has at the end a precious metal sphere surmounted, depending on the types, by a cross cross cross cross cross (to one or three horizontal arms) or by a Crucifix.

They are awarded the Common Ferula: pastors which honorably retain the title Required and Episcopal Vicars. The Ferula in these roles is still in use in the field Ambrosian.
