The Astylar Cross is a liturgical object used by the Catholic Church.

It is a cross similar to an altar cross but instead of having a base, it is attached to a decorated or painted pole and is about two meters high. It is used in processions both outside, for processions through city streets, and inside the church, such as at the beginning of Mass when the priest enters the church and at the end when he leaves, it is usually held by an altar boy who precedes the priest and all the other altar servers, as soon as the priest begins to celebrate Mass it is placed on a base next to the altar so that it is the altar cross, or otherwise (if the altar cross is already there) it is set aside.^[

In the Roman rite it is held with the crucifix facing forward, while in the Ambrosian rite it is facing backward toward the priest.
