The Astral cross is a liturgical object used by Catholic Church.

It is a cross similar to the altar but instead of having a base, it is fixed to a decorated or painted rod and is about two meters high. It is used in processions both outside, for the processions through the streets of the cities, and inside the church, for example at the beginning of the Mass when the priest enters the church and eventually when it comes out, it is usually held by a Chierichetto that precedes the priest and all the other ministrants, as soon as the priest begins to celebrate Mass, he is placed on a base next to the altar so that it is the cross of the altar, or otherwise (if the cross of the altar is already there) is set aside.^♪

In Roman rite is held with the crucifix facing forward, while in Ambrosian rite is facing backwards, towards the priest.
