The 20th century was rightly defined "the century of the Church". It is the time of the progressive valorization and the explicitation of this fundamental mystery of our faith and our life. In the past century the Church realized a deep reflection on herself, discovering the richness of the flow of fidei memory, especially through the document that outlines the essence, structure and mission: the dogmatic constitution Lumen Gentium, nodal point and prism of the varied doctrinal context of the Second Vatican Council. The present Dictionary wants to gather in an accessible way for a wide audience interested, but not necessarily specialized, the heritage of the richness of tradition, of many magisterial pronouncements and of many theological studies that have had the Church as a focal point. It is a perspective, which does not claim to exhaust the possibility of reading and understanding of this mystery. The Dictionary collects over 150 voices written by a large number of collaborators chosen among the most famous cultivators of ecclesiology and related disciplines. It is thus guaranteed, in the substantial fidelity to the teaching of the Church that everyone unites, a plurality of approaches that allows to offer a great wealth of aspects and nuances that contribute to a more adequate vision of the Church in its totality. It is therefore an unmissable and original tool, enriched by the possibility of reading according to a modular structure, which allows to find the three different levels previewed for the entire work: the Church itself, the ecumenical and interreligious dialogue, the comparison with social and cultural reality.
