  • Height 160 cm.

Antonio di Padova, also known as from Padua or from Lisbon (in Portuguese) António de Lisboa), to the century Fernando Martins de Bulhões (Lisbon, 15 August 1195 – 13 June 1231), was a Portuguese religious and priest belonging to the order of minor friars, proclaimed saint by Pope Gregory IX in 1232 and declared doctor of the Church in 1946.

From regular canon to Coimbra from 1210, then from 1220 Franciscan friars. He traveled a lot, living first in Portugal then in Italy and France. In 1221 he went to the General Chapter in Assisi, where he saw and listened in person to Saint Francis of Assisi. After the chapter, Antonio was sent to Montepaolo di Dovadola, near Forlì. He was endowed with great humility, but also with great wisdom and culture, for his valuable qualities of preacher, shown for the first time precisely in Forlì in 1222.

Antonio was in charge of the teaching of theology and sent by Saint Francis himself to contrast in France the spread of the movement of the Cathars, which the Church of Rome judges heretic. He was then transferred to Bologna and then to Padua. He died at the age of 36. Quickly canonized (in less than a year) his cult is among the most popular of Catholicism. SOURCE WIKIPEDIA
